Clicca per allargare. VLC diventa così nel momento in cui aprite un file v_v Click to enlarge. This is how VLC looks like when a video is playing.
NOTA: la finestra è nera perché ho fatto lo screen premendo StampRsist sulla tastiera. Come avrete capito, gli screencaps non possono essere fatti in questo modo perché al posto dell'immagine vi ritrovate un bel buco nero v_v

Quando arriva una scena di cui volete uno screencap, bloccate la riproduzione e fate: Video » Snapshot. Tutto da solo, VLC snapperà l'immagine corrente e la salverà nella cartella di default. In alto a sinistra apparirà anche una piccola anteprima della scena catturata.
When the vid gets to a scene you want to capture, stop the video and do this: Video » Snapshot. VLC'll do everything by itself, and a small preview will be shown in the upper left corner.

C'è anche una scorciatoia: sempre durante la riproduzione, premete ALT+CTRL+S. E' esattamente la stessa cosa di fare Video » Snapshot, ma è decisamente più veloce e, piccolo segreto, se staccate il dito da S per un nanosecondo e poi lo premete ancora e ancora e ancora, VLC farà screencaptures a ripetizione (non esagerate, però, perché dopo un certo numero di Snapshot il video comincerà ad andare male o addirittura il programma potrebbe andare in crash - se dovesse succedere, chiudete e riaprite il file - o il programma, ovviamente, in caso di crash). Se andate sotto Impostazioni » Preferences ~Interfaces ~Hotkeys settings potrete cambiare le combinazioni di tasti (tipo, io ho messo CTRL+A)
There's also a quicker method. When the video is playing, push ALT+CTRL+S. If you hold on this hotkeys, VLC will take screencaptures one just after the other. Unfortunately, if you do it for too long, the video'll play badly - or the program could crash. If this happens, just close & open the video to fix the problem.
If you go under Settings » Preferences » Interfaces » Hotkeys settings, you can change the hotkeys (i.e., I use CTRL+A)

Potete decidere dov'è che gli snapshots verranno salvati e anche il formato. Questo è il percorso da seguire: Impostazioni » Preferences ~Video. Assicuratevi che la casellina in basso "Opzioni Avanzate" sia spuntata e scrollate un po' la finestra finché non trovate la voce 'Snapshot'. A questo punto mettete le impostazioni che preferite. Un consiglio: non ditegli di salvare le screen in formato .jpg perché vengono orribili. Dimostrazione.
You can also decide where the files will be saved, and the format (jpg, or png): Settings » Preferences » Video. You have to check 'Advanced Options', then change default settings to what you prefer. I suggest you not to use jpg format, because screencaps come out looking bad. Evidence.

ATTENZIONE: le dimensioni della finestra di visualizzazione non influenzano quelle degli snapshot (che avranno la dimensione originale del video).
WARN: if you cap in fullscreen, images won't be any larger.
